Notes:

William A. "Mutt" Ray, 80, of Cherry Creek Rd., Meadows of Dan, died Friday, December 8, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born on June 5, 1920 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Charlie and Sarah Joyce Ray. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. He served in the U.S. Army in the 27th Infantry Division during World War II. He had been self employed as a floor finisher, and was a member of Hillsville VFW Post 1115. He was of the Christian faith. Surviving are his wife, Eula Knowles Ray of the home; one daughter, Diane Ferguson of Collinsville; three sons, Roger Ray and Jerry Ray, both of Bassett, and William A. "Billy" Ray Jr. of Martinsville; one brother, Ed Ray of Hillsville and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Dr. Calvin Raines officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard, was in the Knowles-Eden family cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Ray, Ray Clark, Charlie Ray, Dewayne Ray, Stephen Ferguson and Ray Vernon.
