Daniel "Dan" Joseph Brooks, 74, of Sedro-Woolley, died Monday,
June 5, 2000, at home following an extended illness. Dan was the
eldest son of Bernice and Claude Brooks, born in Everett, WA April
7, 1926 and was raised in Snohomish County. Dan served in the US
Navy during WWII, in the South Pacific on the USS Warrick and the
USS ATA 204 and received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific Area
Campaign, American Area Campaign, WWII Victory and Philippine
Liberation. He was united in marriage to Violet M. West June 29,
1947, in Granite Falls, WA. Together they raised four children:
daughter, Valerie and Ronald Barker of Lynnwood, WA; sons: Jim D.
and Deborah Brooks of Arlington, WA, Richard D. and Patricia Brooks,
and Daniel J. II and Rose Brooks of Sedro-Woolley. Dan was a
longtime resident of Sedro-Woolley, providing for his family as a
herdsman at various Skagit County dairy farms, as a mill worker for
Weyerhauser in Everett and as a State Forest Warden for the
Department of Natural Resources in Sedro-Woolley. Blessed with a
close family and many good friends, Dan had a full life and enjoyed
fishing and hunting throughout his life. He will be missed by all
whose lives he touched. Dan is also survived by brothers: Leonard
Brooks and his wife Juanita of Snohomish, WA and David Brooks of
Everett; one sister, Lois and her husband Todd Lewis of Bonney Lake,
WA; grandchildren: Susan K. and Michael Curran, Sandra G. and Ralph
Prothero Jr. and Dale D. Allison, Joshua and Amanda Brooks, Lauren
Brooks, Jessica L. Brooks, Richard Jason Brooks, Yvonne and Mark
Nelson, Kristina Brooks, Benjamin Brooks and Michael Brooks;
great-grandchildren: Justin and Jesse Prothero, Jenny Marie Curran,
ShayAnn Allison, Ariana Brooks, Robby, Cylas and Cody Brooks,
Amber, Alyssa, Alex, Aaron and Anthony Nelson; special friends:
Jean and Paul Wagner, Lynn and Ralph Prothero, Jeanie Pippin and
Marilyn Edson. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson Keven
Daniel Allison and a brother Kenneth Brooks. Memorials are suggested
to Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 5371, MS-CL-04, Seattle, WA
98105-0371. A service at the graveside will be Friday, June 9,
2000 at 1:00 PM at Hawthorne Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements
are entrusted to Hawthorne Funeral Home.

The Zanesville Signal, Zanesville, Ohio, Wednesday Evening, March 24, 1943
MAN INSTANTLY KILLED IN FALL OF SLATE AT MCLUNEY MINE
Crooksville - Clifford Lear, 54, of Milligan's Bend, was instantly
killed yesterday morning when caught in a fall of slate at a coal
mine owned by the Clark Coal company, at McLuney. lear was entering
the mine in a coal car being pulled by a pony, which he was driving,
whtn the fall caught him. The pony escaped. He is survived by two
brothers, Frank, of the home, and George of McLuney, and three
sisters, Mrs. Frank Brown of McLuney, Mrs. Mildred Ebert of Columbus,
and Mrs. ????e Robinson of Zanesville. Funeral services will be
held at the Cannon & Cannon funeral home, Thursday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock with Rev. Morrill Lucas, Pastor of the Iliff's Methodist
church, officiation. Burial will be in the Iliff's church cemetery.
