EDEN - Dean Potter Cockram, 97, formerly of Red Clay Road, Eden, died Wednesday evening at Morehead Nursing Center. The graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. A native of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, he was a retired carpenter. Surviving are two daughters, Betty C. White of Eden, Patty C. Grogan of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two sons, Glynn Cockram of Eden, and Cleatus Cockram of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister, Susie Elliott of Richmond, Va.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Roberson Cockram, and daughter, Ethelene C. Arender. Visitation will from from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Fair Funeral Home, and other times at the home of the daughter, Betty White, 722 Camellia Lane, Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham Co., P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, N.C. 27375.

Abby M. Conaway, 92, of Crooksville, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 1992, at her home following a long illness. Mrs. Conaway was a Methodist by faith. She was born on March 22, 1899, in Columbus, a daughter of John and Mary Gladden Sutherland. Surviving are two daughters, Rose Marie Taylor and Mary Lou Hines, both of Crooksville; two sons, Thomas B. Conaway of Roseville and Paul D. Conaway of Crooksville; one sister, Helen Bailey of New Lexington; one brother, John Sutherland of Roseville; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald B. Conaway, in 1982, and one grandson, Jerry Hines. Services were held at Goebel Funeral Home in Crooksville, the Rev. Johnny Schmitt officated. Burial was in Iliff Cemetery.
