Nelsonville - Mrs. Laura A. Shafer, 89, of 155 Madison St., died Monday afternoon in Mount St. Mary Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sunday. She was the widow of Jesse Shafer, who died in 1942. Mrs. Shafer was born in Nelsonville, the daughter of George L. and Louisa Longley Steenrod. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edna Oliver, Nelsonville; two sons, Landon and Tom, both of Columbus; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Nelson officiating, assisted by the Rev. William A. Mechem. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the family residence at 155 Madison St., until Thursday morning when the body will be taken to the funeral home.
