Mrs. Nellie M. Lear, 63, of Crooksville, retired pottery worker, died
at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept 5) at Bethesda Hospital after a lingering
illness. She was born in Crooksville, on Oct. 23, 1904, a daughter
of Charles and Emma Pettit Appleman. Mrs. Lear worked at the Hull
Pottery in Crooksville for over 25 years, retiring in July 1867. She
was a member of the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.
Surviving are her husband, Luck Lear; two brothers, Halsey Appleman
of Portersville and Everett Appleman of Cambridge. Four sisters
preceded her in death. The body was taken to the Fred L. Cannon and
Son Funeral Home in Crooksville where friends may call. Services
will be held at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home with Rev. Margaret
Sager officiating. Burial will be in Crooksville Cemetery.

Mrs Benjamin Longley died at her residence in the fifth ward at four o'clock
Tuesday morning. She was about seventy years of age and had been a sufferer
from consumption for the past five years. She was a sister to Mrs.
C. F. Laib of this city and Francis McHugh of Caledonia. The funeral was very
largely attended.

Pottery Forman Dies Suddenly
George W Young, 51, a foreman at the A.E. Hull pottery, died suddenly
at 6:30 o'clock Sunday morning of a heart attack at his home, 513
Washington street, in Crooksville. He was a member of Eagles
lodge, aerie 1979, and the Loyal Order of Moose, both of
Crooksville. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Mona Young of
the home, and Mrs. Rex Fleming of Crooksville; two grandchildren,
Shirley Ann and Sondra Lee Barker, both of Roseville; his mother,
Mrs. J D Young of Crooksville; one brother, Earl D. Young of
Crooksville; two sisters, Mrs. Leanice Cooper and Mrs. Robert
Shockley, both of Crooksville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon
at Cannon and Cannon funeral home, Crooksville, with G. W. Wilson
of Pittsburgh officiating. The body will be cremated at Colubus.
The body was returned from the funeral home Sunday to the residence
Sunday where memorial services will be held by the Eagles at 7:30
o'clock this evening and by the Moose lodge at 8 o'clock.
