Sarah J. McElroy-Longley died at her home in North Farmington, April 29, 1904, at the age of 73 years, six months and four days. She was born in Morgan County, Ohio, Oct.25, 1830, and was married to Geo. W. Longley in January 1848. They came west in 1858 and for a time lived in Athens, Mo. Later they removed to Farmington; and with the exception of a five years' residence in Keokuk, this town has been their home. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom died in former years and four survive, James Longley, Elizabeth Owens, Rebecca Jordon and John Longley. She had eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She has three sisters and one brother, Rebecca Rhodes of Loveland, Col., Ellen Bailey of Farmington, Drusilla Clemmy of LaClede, Mo., and John McElroy. She united with the Farmington Baptist church some twenty-five years ago and amid trials and afflictions of a peculiar and distressing kind has sought to serve the Lord. In her last illness, which was of six weeks duration, she often expressed the desire to meet her Savior and be at rest. Funeral services were held in the Baptist church, Sunday May 1, 1904, at 2 p.m. Rev. Longson reading scripture and Elder Jas. McKiernan delivering the sermon - Interment in Farmington cemetery.
