CANTON, N.C. -- Laura Elizabeth Williams Longley, fell asleep in Jesus on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Mrs. Longley, 98, was born in Rock Spring, Ga. Most of her life was spent in the Chattanooga area; she lived in Western North Carolina the past 17 years. She was a member of the Mount Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church. Mrs. Longley was predeceased by her husband, John D. Longley. She was a mother and homemaker and is survived by her two sons, Samuel D. (Peggy) Longley of Melbourne, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C., and Max B. (Jean) Longley of Canton, and Tavares, Fla. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Lisa (Bob) Leatherwood of Waynesville, N.C., Samuel D. "Chip" (Ann) Longley Jr., of Walnut Creek, Calif., Melissa (Dennis) Haynes of Melbourne, Jodi (Guy) Pierce of High Point, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; and special friend and caretaker, Jane Reese.
