Ted Biby, 90, of Winfield, died Jan. 12, 2007, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church. Cremation and private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Born on Sept. 27, 1916, in Udall, Ted was the only child of Reuel and Jess (Davis) Biby. He was raised in Udall and graduated from Udall High School. He then attended Pittsburg State University. Ted married Lois Akers on July 20, 1944, in Winfield at the Grace United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Winfield. Ted was in the United States Army Airforce for 44 months. A veteran of World War II, he spent most of his time in the South Pacific in New Guinea and Australia. He was honorably discharged in September 1945. He worked as a carpenter for himself as well as for contractors. In 1967, he went to work at the Winfield State Hospital & Training Center doing carpentry and maintenance. He retired in 1981. As a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, he served on the board of trustees and various committees and was an active member of the Covenant Sunday school class and United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the local American Legion, the Carpenters Union, the K&O Steam and Gas Engine Association, Land Owners Association, Farm Bureau, the Bee Keepers Club and PTA, and he was a 4-H leader. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family. In earlier years, he loved coaching youth baseball and basketball teams. Ted was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lois Biby, Winfield; his sons, Roger Biby, and wife, Debbie, and Parke Biby, and wife, Carol, all of Winfield; his daughter, Carol Myers, and husband, Bill, Wichita, and Lela Boyer, and husband, Robert, Durango, Colo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
