Maudia B. Solomito Arney, 94, Fortville, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007. She was born October 15, 1912 in Monroe Co., Indiana to the late William and Carrie Shields Clark. Maudia graduated from Smithville High School, Class of 1930. She married Savario Veto Solomito November 1, 1930 and he preceded her in death July 27, 1937. She then married Dasel E. Arney September 1, 1938 and he also preceded her in death November 15, 1981. Maudia worked for Indiana University as a custodian for 15 years and was a member of Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis and Tampa, FL. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 16, at 3:00 p.m. at Clear Creek Cemetery in Bloomington, IN. Maudia is survived by her daughters, Colleen Craig and Alberta L. Lashbrook; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Final care and arrangements entrusted to Shirley Brothers Thompson Rd. Chapel.

Gertie Branam, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Langley, died at her fathers residence, West 8th street, Feb. 19th, inst. She joined the Missionary Baptist church in the fall of 1880, and lived a faithful, consistent Christian until her death. Her husband, and a lovely little daughter, and her father and mother, brothers, and sisters, with a host of friends mourn her loss. She was preceeded to the heavenly world by three little sisters. To know her was to love her many fine qualities of mind and heart. At the time of her death she was twenty years old. Her funeral will be preached by her pastor, Rev. A.A. Hudson, at New Prospect church, Dolan, Indiana, on the first Sunday in June.

Three Deaths over Weekend- Brother follows Brother to the Grave in Lanley Family
Health Authorities Assert Worst is Over.
While the measles epidemic which has been sweeping Monroe County for several weeks is over the peak and fewer cases are now being reported each day, three children died from the epidemic over the weekend. In each of the three deaths the measles ran into pneumonia and the pneumonia was fatal. These three deaths bring the death list up to twelve and make this one of the worst epidemics which Monroe County has had in many years. The oldest local physician cannot recall when there was such a series of deaths from a supposedly mild sickness. The health authorities continue to assert that the epidemic will shortly run its course.

The Eleventh Victim
Clarence Lewis, 12 year old son of Mrs. Minnie Langley, south Fairview street, died yesterday in the Bloomington hospital after a four week illness from measles and pneumonia. Only three weeks ago a seven year old brother, Albert passed away of the same disease. The mother, two brothers, Clayborn of this city and Harmon, of LaPorte and an uncle Albert Cross, this city survive. The child's father Scott Langley, died about three years ago. Funeral tomorrow at 2 o'clock from the Day Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Joseph M. Campbell of the Southside church and burial at Richland Cemetery. This is the eleventh victim of the measles-pneumonia epidemic.

Lloyd Langley, 76, Moline, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Moline. Private family services were held on Wednesday at Cordova Township Cemetery, Cordova. Memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch. Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family. Lloyd was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Terre Haute, Ind., the son of William and Sally Webb Langley. He married Joan Mannen July 23, 1949, in Rock Island. He retired from American Air Filter after 36 years of service. In his retirement years he enjoyed taking trips with his friends and caring for his lawn and garden. In the past, Lloyd was a Little League coach. He was also a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan; sisters, Marjorie Buzard, Moline, Juanita Hill, Moline, Jean Kinser, Bloomington, Ind.; brothers, Floyd Langley, Moline, William Langley, Moline, Glen Langley, Florida; caring and loving niece and nephew, Kenneth and Patricia Corbin, Moline; Grandpa's special boys, Jordan, Austin and Nicklaus Arp. Lloyd had a small circle of friends he loved and treasured in his life, Kevin and Connie Arp, Butch and Donna Downs, Danny Karr and Patricia Means. DEATH OF MRS. MARGART LANGLEY
Mrs. Margaret Langley, 63 (65) years old, died of pneumonia at 3:45 this morning at her home on west Third street. She was the widow of the late Milton Langley who died several years ago. She is survived by two nieces and three nephews as follows: Mrs. Grace Corman (Carman) and Mrs. Joseph Schott, William Hurst and Ben Kimbley, of this city; and Edward Hendricks, Chicago. Funeral will be held at the house, Saturday at two o'clock in charge of the Rev. C.T. Holman, of the First Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Rose Hill cemetery.

Injuries Fatal to Inmate of County Home
Milton Edward Langley, age 71 years, died Saturday evening at 6 oclock in the local hospital, from injuries received Saturday, March 8, when he was struck by an automobile driven by J.W. Sappenfield, of Lyons, Indiana. Langley, who was an inmate of the county infirmary, was walking west on state road 45, three miles west of the city, when the accident occurred. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Florence Robinson, Pasadena, Cal., three nieces, Mrs. Nick Solomito, Mrs. Ora Allgood and Mrs. Otis Hupp, all of this city; three nephews, Scott and Harris Langley of Brazil and William Langley, west of the city. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 oclock from the Weir funeral home, in charge of Elder A.W. Harvey. Interment in Richland cemetery.

LOCAL MAN IS A SUICIDE BY ACID AT TERRE HAUTE
Rolla Langley, A Former Resident Here, Ends his Life in the Basement of His Home
By the use of carbolic acid, Rolla Langley who lived here until 6 years ago and was a nephew of Scott and Gabriel Langley, committed suicide at his home in Terre Haute. The burning acid was drunk by Langley whle he was in the basement at his home and two men who were passing the house heard his cries and had him sent to the hospital where he died within 25 minutes after he swallowed the poison. Langley had a wife and two small children and was despondent because of financial trouble. His family was at home when he went into the basement and soon after he swallowed the acid his cries of anguish were heard out on the street. The man who committed self destruction was a son of Gabriel Langley, deceased, and was raised here. While in this city he lived on South Morton Street.

A native of Bloomfield, Ind., he moved here from Monrovia, Ind., in 1988. He was Protestant. Survivors include his wife, Alberta Lashbrook, Ocala; sons, Vernon L. Lashbrook, Indianapolis, Ind., Dennis W. Lashbrook, Mooresville, Ind., and Roger Lashbrook, Orlando; sisters, Jewel Holcomb, Indianapolis, and Nina Shear, Bloomfield; brothers, Kenneth Lashbrook, Monrovia, and Charles Lashbrook, Jacksonville, Ind.; and six grandchildren. Erle Martin Litten Age 87, of Bloomington, died Sunday November 7, 2004 at his residence. Born July 24, 1917 in Ellettsville, Indiana, he was the son of William Elmer and Goldie (Melick) Litten. He worked both as an accountant and also as a business owner. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Lynhurst Masonic Lodge, the Shriner's, the Sheriffs Association of Indianapolis and the American Legion Post 18. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Olive Litten of Bloomington; two daughters, Katherine Alice Mann and husband Thomas of Rockford, Illinois, and Dr. Carol Litten Touloukian and husband Dr. James Touloukian of Bloomington; one son, C. Scott Litten of Arlington, Virginia; one stepson, David Dyer and wife Betty of Greenwood, IN, two step-daughters Judith Pettigrew and husband Gordon of Indianapolis and Kay Sink and husband Jimmy of Orange City, Florida; one sister, Inez Waddell and husband Dr. Clayton Waddell of Clinton, Mississippi and one brother, Rex Litten of Olympia, Washington; seven grandchildren, Trent Michael Mann, Mark Mann, Koren Litten Martin, Andrew Litten, Emily Touloukian, Paul Touloukian and Edward Touloukian; one great grandchild, Addison Mann; nine step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor (Mosier) Litten on March 14, 1987; two sisters, Jane Rogan and Barbara Wood; and two brothers, Thomas Lee Litten and Paul Litten. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. November 10 in Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. John VanderZee officiating. Visitation is from 12 p.m. until service, in the funeral home, on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Methodist Cemetery, Ellettsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bloomington Hospital co Allen Funeral Home, 3000 E. 3rd St., Bloomington, IN 47401.

Daniel Richard Schoger, 84, Anderson, died Jan. 20, 2004, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness following a stroke. He was born June 5, 1919, in Anderson, and was a resident of this area for most of his life. He was a certified public accountant and was a CPA in Los Angeles, Calif. He was also owner and operator of Schoger Carpets. He was a 1937 graduate of Anderson High School and graduated from Indiana University with honors in 1941. He was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene in Anderson. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda and husband Ralph Hellmann of Texas, and Marylou Schoger-Deniston and husband Roy of California; son, Daniel M. (wife, Debbie) Schoger of Markleville; sister, Hilda Humphrey; brother, Robert Schoger; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The mother of his children, Pauline Solomito-Simms, also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthias and Margaret (Epp) Schoger; two children, Barbara Schoger and Joyce Schoger; two brothers, Matthias Schoger and Harry Schoger; and longtime friend, Evelyn Hardwick. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at the South Chapel.

FRANK M. SIMMS JR. - Mr. Simms, 77, died Oct. 12, 2001, in Colorado Springs from congestive heart failure. He was a retired carpenter and served in the Army as a flight officer. Mr. Simms was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Sewell, N.J., to Franklin M. and Florence L. (Wentzell) Simms Sr., who are deceased. He was married Dec. 27, 1974, to Pauline M. Solomito. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Jerry L. Simms, Phillip Simms and Matthias Daniel Schoger; four daughters, Beverly Shiflett, Charlene Meyers, Brenda J. Hellmann and Mary Lou Deniston; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave., 471-9900. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 5055 El Camino Drive, 599- 7990. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road. H. Clayton Waddell, 97, died Sunday, August 14, at his home in Clinton. A memorial service will be announced in the coming weeks. Dr. Waddell was born in Cuba, Ala., in 1908. He graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, Ala., and continued his education at Louisville Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY., where he attained the degree of Doctor of Divinity. As a divinity student, he met Inez Litten, to whom he was married in 1938. He did post-doctoral work at Yale University Divinity School in New Haven, Conn., and Regent s Park College, Oxford, England. He pursued his ministerial vocation at churches in Baton Rouge and Opelousas, LA., and Washington, D.C., before moving to New Orleans, LA., in 1948. Dr. Waddell was a professor at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for 25 years. He moved to Clinton upon his retirement in 1973, and taught for many years at the Mississippi Baptist Seminary. Dr. Waddell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton as well as an avid golfer and enthusiastic follower of professional sports and national politics. He was preceded in death by Inez Litten Waddell, his wife of 67 years, and his son, William Daniels Waddell. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Waddell Arthur; son Henry Clayton Waddell Jr.; granddaughter Nicole Arthur; and great-granddaughters Rose and Nora Shafer.
