Auglaize Man Takes Life at His Farm Home

Wapakoneta, July 8 - The prospect of starting life over again on a farm five miles south of here was given as the reasong for the suicide of 67-year-old Otis W. Burklo. He shot himself in the right temple with a 38-calibre revolver as his wife walked into an upstairs bedroom. They had moved onto the farm two days before Burklo took his own life on Tuesday. Burklo, born in Mercer Co, had been an oil well driller, that farmed near Montpelier, Ind. for many years. A year ago he sold the farm and went to California. He returned about a month ago. surviving are: the widow, one son, Ray Burklo of Taft, Calf.; two brothers, Ed, of Montpelier, Ind., and Charles of near St. Marys; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Pence of St. Marys, Mrs. Agnes Bay of Lima and Mrs. Mollie Kettering of Marion, ind. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

He was a 1948 graduate of Indiana Vocational Technical College, Muncie. Services: noon June 1 in Crown Hill Funeral Home, with calling from 11 a.m. Burial: Crown Hill Cemetery. He was the widow of Betty R. Boyd Dunn. Survivors: children William L., Kenneth P., John J., Janet T. Dunn brother Harold Dunn sister Beverly Dunn two grandchildren.

PARIS, Ill. - Ingeburg R. Elledge, 70, of Paris, Ill., died at 8 a.m. Friday (May 9, 2003) at home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Edgar Cemetery, Paris, Ill. Visitation will be private. Sutton & Son Funeral Home, 600-618 E. Court St., Paris, Ill., is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Elledge was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Bruchmuhlbach, Germany, a daughter of Albert and Marie Rockel. She married Wilbur R. Elledge Sr. on April 11, 1959, in Landstuhl, Germany. He survives. Also surviving are her mother of Bruchmuhlbach, Germany; a son, Wilbur Elledge Jr. of Paris, Ill.; three daughters, Barbara Joan Hogan and Mary Ann Guiney, both of Paris, Ill., and Dorene Sullivan of Champaign; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother and a sister. Mrs. Elledge was a homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Indiana University Cancer Center or the hospice division of Dynamic Home Care.

WAPAKONETA - Charles E. Sidey, 67, of Rt. 3, died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in Joint Township Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was a retired Ohio Steel Foundry employe. Born Jan. 18, 1902, in Van Wert County, he was the son of Lafayette and Mary Anderson Sidey. He was married March 18, 1934, to Flossie Marie Schaub. She survives. Also surviving are five sons, William of Rt. 2, Spencerville, Ray of Rt. 3, James of Wapakoneta, Bert of Rt. 1, and Thomas Joe, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Fredericka) Howell of 4973 S. Dixie, Lima. Mrs. Robert (Hattie) Hirschfield of Wapakoneta and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Vornholt of St. Marys; 11 grandchildren; and three brothers, Joe of Martinsville, Ind., Robert of Navarre, and Lavon, no address. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Bayliff and Sons Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Eldon Stern officiating. Burial will be in Buckland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 tonight.

Auglaize-co Man is Found Hanging from Head of Bed
Wapakoneta, Feb 10 - (Special) - Funeral services for Emmett R. Sidey, 30, who committed suicide at the home of his father, R. J. Sidey Monday evening by hanging himself from the head of a bed, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Sidey home in Duchouquet-tp. Burial will be made at Kossuth. Worry over continued ill health is given as the cause for Sidey taking his life. He had been brooding over his physical condition following a nervous breakdown while living at Keystone, Ind., two years ago. When he came to the home of his parents near this city to recuperate. His condition had been considered improved for some time, but he suffered a relapse about two weeks ago, since then he was closely guarded by members of his family. Sidey's body was discovered by his father and brother, Roland Sidey, about 6 p.m. Monday in the man's room. He had fastened a light rope to the head of an iron bed and place a noose about his neck. With these preparations he slid from the bed to the floor, where he was found by his relatives. Sidey is survived by his parents, brother, wife and two children, Fredericka, aged nine years and John aged seven.

Flossie M. Sidey, 86, died at 10:29 a.m. at Joint Twp. District Memorial Hosptial, St. Marys. She was born July 2, 1913, in Gutman to Joseph C. and Bertha Pauline Smith Schaub. She married Charles E. Sidey, who died Jan. 19, 1969. Mrs. Sidey was a homemaker. She was a retired laundry department employee at Joint Twp. District Memorial Hospital and a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. Survivors include five sons, Wiliam (Nancy) of Spencerville, C. Ray (Carolynn) and Bert E. (Jeanie) both of Wapakoneta, Jim (Jeanie) of Roseland, Fla. and Tommy Joe of Lima; three daughters, Hattie (Edward) Reynolds and Ruth (John) Sweigart both of Wapakoneta, and Fredricka Howell of Cridersville; a brother, Joseph of Lakeview; a sister, Josephine of Wapakoneta; 13 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis,Marion and Charles Schaub; a sister, Pauline; and two grandchildren. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The Rev. Carl Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Buckland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Christian Union Church.

James Lee Sidey, 58, of Roseland, died Nov. 16, 2000, at his residence after a prolonged illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Buckland, Ohio, and moved to Roseland 29 years ago from Wapakoneta, Ohio. Mr. Sidey was a flooring contractor. He was a Methodist. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Jean; two daughters, Candy Elpers and Teresa Limbert, both of Roseland; four brothers and three sisters, all of Ohio; and one granddaughter. At the familys request, there will be no repose or visitation. A memorial service was to be held at a later date. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, Fla. 32960, in Mr. Sideys memory. Cremation services were under the direction of Indian River Cremations Inc., Vero Beach.

Wapakoneta, Nov. 26 - Lafayette M. Sidey, 66, former resident of this city, died Wednesday evening at his home in Martinsville, Ill., according to word received here by his brother, R. J. Sidey. The body arrived here today and was taken to the Heinl and Swongeur funeral home from where it will be removed to the brother's home later today. Funeral services are incomplete.

Cridersville - Services for Mrs. Mary Lucille Sidey, 79, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Bayliff Funeral Home here, the Rev. Lee Burtchin officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery. Mrs. Sidey, widow of Lafayette Sidey and former Westminster resident, died Thursday in Oblong, Ill. Since the death of her husband in 1937 Mrs. Sidey had lived with her sons, Lavon, in Oblong, and Charles, Route 3, Wapakoneta. She was a member of the Westminster Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving besides the sons are two other sons, Robert, Canton, and Joseph, Martinville, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edna Rarida, Paril, Ill., and Mrs. Lucille Farris, in Texas; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Russell and Mrs. Amelia Clark, both of 24-1/2 Public Square, Lima; Mrs. Mildred Vermillion, and a brother, Patrick Anderson, in Martinville, Ill. The body will arrive in Wapakoneta at 3 a.m. and be removed to the funeral home where friends may call.

On October 10, 1976 at the Tudor Home, Selkirk, Mrs. Mildred Emily Sidey, aged 79 years, late of 419 Robinson Ave., Selkirk. Funeral service will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Larstone officiating. Interment in the St. Clements cemetery. Mrs. Sidey was born at Tyndall, Man., the daughter of Mrs. Adam Wells and lived her early years at Tyndall and Winnipeg. She resided at McCreary, Manitoba for 23 years prior to moving to Selkirk in 1962. She was predeceased by her husband Percy in 1967 and leaves surviving a daughter Mrs. Janet Marsh of Selkirk and son Percy of Yorktown, Sask., and two grandchildren.

On April 24, 1967, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Mr. Percy Stanley Sidey, age 76 years, of 419 Robinson Ave., Selkirk, dearly beloved husband of Mildred Sidey. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, with Rev. G. Tindale officiating. Interment in St. Clements Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Sidey was born at Allendale, Ontario, and came to Manitoba in 1911. He was an automobile crafstman for General Motors for many years. He later homesteaded at McCreary, Manitoba, remaining there until moving to Selkirk in 1962. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Marsh (Janet); and a son Percy, both of Selkirk; and two nephews Elmer Sidey of Starbuck and Gordon Sidey of Burnaby, B.C.

WAPAKONETA, Aug. 8 - Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday for R. J. Sidey, 71, local dairy proprietor. He died at his residence two miles north of here after being ill for the past four years. Arrangements were in charge of the Beinl Bros. and Son funeral home with services being held at his home with the Rev. George Herd officiating. Burial was made at Kossuth cemetery. Sidney was born in 1873 in Browdly, Ontario, Canada. He came here in 1920 from 1Montpelier, Ind., and established the Sidey's Dairy which he operated until a year ago when failing health forced him to give up his work. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Friderika Claus Sidey. Last January the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. A daughter, Mrs. Robert Boyd, Muncie, Ind., a son, Roland J. Sidey, here, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Burklo, Taft, Cal., and seven grandchildren also survive.

JUANITA J. SWINFORD, 71, of Paris, died at 10:26 a.m. Monday (Jan. 4, 2005) at Paris Community Hospital. She operated Juanita's Restaurant for many years and later was the cook at the Edgar County Jail, until she retired. Cremation is scheduled and private burial will be at a later date in Edgar Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. The Sutton & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Edgar County Humane Society or D.O. it! Edgar County Cancer Support Group. Donations may be made in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Swinford was born July 15, 1933, at Dudley, the daughter of Hobart Elledge and Alliene Rardin Elledge. She married Verne Swinford in 1964 at Joliet. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, William A. Bailey III of Paris and Richard Dean Bailey of Vermilion; one daughter, Linda Sue Roth of Saginaw, Mich.; one brother, Wilbur Elledge of Paris; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one son. Mrs. Swinford was active in the Edgar County Democratic Party and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
