DEPOSITION C
Case of Thos. Longley, No. 501,953

On this 22 day of Aug., 1902 at Stockport, county of Morgan, state of Ohio, before me, N.E. Luckey, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions, personally appeared Jesse M McKibben, who, being, by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says:

I am 61 years of age, P.O. address as above, farmer.

I was a pvt of Co F 77 Ohio Inf. Nov. 61 to Mar 66.

I had known Thos. Longley from the time we were small boys and we lived in the same little town up to his enlistment in my company. When he went into the army Thos Longley was stout and healthy and free from any disability as far as I could see.

We messed together for a time and we were stationed or quartered together during our service.

Q. Do you know of any disease or wound or injury that Thos. Longley got in service.

A. He had measles at Camp Tupper Marietta O. and then he got sick at Pittsburg Landing in '62 and I think he was sent to hospital. I don't know what was the matter with him, but it seems to me that he complained of his lungs but I don't recollect that I noticed any symptoms of lung trouble. He never was fit for duty after we went to Pittsburg Landing and I think that he was discharged for disability.

He lived at my town for about a year after the war and then went West, since which time I have not seen him. While he remained in my locality he was always complaining and I don't know that I ever saw him well after he came out of the service. I don't know that I would say what his trouble was; he had a very bad cough. We lived right together and I noticed that he had the cough right away after we came home. It seemed to me that his cough was deep but I could not tell whether he spit up much or not. He spit up some.

Yes, I think I remember of him having diarrhea in camp at Pittsburg Landing. I don't know where he had di

arrhea after that or whether he had piles. I remember he was sent to hospital for some trouble. I only recollect that he had diarrhea.

I have heard read the statement of claimant and I now think that he was sick in Tennessee and not at Pittsburg Landing as I have stated. I am unable to recall anything more than I have herein above stated of any disability that Longley had.

As long as he remained in my neighborhood after the war he continued to complain of lung trouble. I am satisfied that he never had diarrhea, pile or lung disease before the war.

The word "home" was entered before I signed this statement.

I have heard this read; it is correct. no relation; no interest
