DEPOSITION K
Case of Thos. Longley, No. 501,953

On this 23 day of Aug., 1902 at Marietta RFD#3, county of Washington, state of Ohio, before me, N.E. Luckey, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions, personally appeared Robt A Fouch, who, being, by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says:

I am 58 years of age, P.O. address as above, master of lock #2

I served in Co E 193 Ohio Inf from Feby/65 to Aug. 65.

I am a cousin of Thos J Longley and he and I were raised in the village of Hooksburg and were right together until he enlisted in the army. When he went into the army, Thos Longley was considered one of the wiriest fellows we had in our neighborhood and he had never had any sickness or disability that I knew of.

I remember that he came home after he first enlisted and remained until he went back for a second service. He was not then in good health. He had dysentery or diarrhea that is what he said it was. He came out of the army after I did and remained at Hooksburg where we then lived until he went west about 1867 or 1868.

He was not in good health when he returned home the second time. He was timid, puny and always complaining. I think his trouble was diarrhea he did not complain of much of anything else. He was down with it a good deal and I know that he had it as I was right with him and I have personal knowledge of his diarrhea. He had it when he first came back from the army and had it until he went away. No, I don't know of any other disability that he had.

Yes, I know of him having piles along with the diarrhea. I know that he had diarrhea and piles. He and I started to McConnellsville on foot soon after his last discharge and he gave out and I saw throwing sand on the piles. They were awful.
