Sarah Elizabeth Hamblin was born on 6 December 1797 at North Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of Benjamin Lay Hamblin and Sarah Elizabeth Brim. Sarah Elizabeth Hamblin married Amos Bennett, son of Ezekiel Bennett, on 2 July 1818 at Whitley County, Kentucky. Sarah Elizabeth Hamblin died after 1880; Sarah is listed as living with her son Benjamin in the 1880 census.
Sarah Elizabeth Hamblin was also known as Sallie. She and Amos Bennett Jr. made their home on land purchased from his father on Bennett's Branch of Patterson Creek. Their home place has later known as the J.L. Jones Place at the mouth of Tye Hollow. Shortly after the death of Nancy's father, Thomas Perkins, they moved to Jellico. Sarah Elizabeth Hamblin was listed on 18 August 1860 as a household member living with Amos Bennett Jr. on the eighth census of the United States in Patterson Creek, Whitley County, Kentucky. Amos Bennett age 69 Tn and Sarah Bennett age 62 NC. In 1791 the area now Tn. was NC. Since other early Bennetts in Knox/Whitley Co.'s gave their state of birth as Tn., I would assume that they were born in the part of NC that became Tn.
