Pleasant Carr Priddy began military service circa 1875 During the Civil War, Pleasant Carr Priddy, Private, served in Company "H", 27th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment, was shot through the jaw by a .58 caliber minnie ball that left a disfiguring scar on his face. He grew a beard that he wore the rest of his life to cover that wound.

Ellen Jean Lidia Merriot Purcell married Murray Waldo Branstetter, son of Martin Alexander Branstetter and Anna Elizabeth Sykes, on 19 February 1902.1 Ellen Jean Lidia Merriot Purcell died on 16 June 1981 at Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, at age 99; she was living with her daughter Gladys when she died.2 She was buried at Spring River Cemetery, Verona, Lawrence County, Missouri.2

Born near Smithfield on May 6, 1865, a son of Wilson and Lamira (Beadles) Rector, he was married April 11, 1889 to Carrie Fate, who survives. Children are: Mrs. Robert (Jessie) Ewan, Bushnell; Mrs. Burl (Lena) Baughman, Kewanee; and Russell, Smithfield. A son, Edwin, died in infancy. Brothers are: H.J., G.E., and M.E. of Smithfield; B.N. Rector or Deerfield, Kan; and L.J. Rector of Lockhart, Minn. Mr. Rector farmed until about 20 years ago, when he moved to town. He was a member of the modern Woodmen and of the Cuba Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Smithfield with Rev. Ralph Dean officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1894 in Smithfield, a daughter of Edwin and Carrie (Fate) Rector. She was married on Dec. 31, 1916 in Smithfield to the Rev. Byrl Baughman, who survived her. A former teacher in the Kellogg School, Mrs. Baughman left Canton in 1929, moving to Kewanee where she operated a beauty shop. She was a graduate of Western State college, Macomb. She was a member of the Kewanee First Methodist Church, and of the Order of Eastern Star. Besides her husband, Mrs. Mary Ruth Doye of Bradford and two grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Robert (Jessie) Ewan, Bushnell; and a brother, Russell F. Rector of Smithfield. Lena was a very caring person who often came back to Smithfield to help care for her parent in their old age. When her mother was seriously ill, she was moved to a Kewanee nursing home where Lena could be close enough to be able to help care for her. Her funeral was held at the Kewanee First Methodist Church with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery.1
