I was first interested in learning more about my family tree around the age of 18, when my Grandmother showed me her 'box'. It contained various certificates, photographs, memorial cards and silk bookmarks as well as Ration Books, which were history to me!
I decided to trace my family tree - not because I thought I might find someone who was famous, but just to get an idea what sort of people I was descended from.
I planned it back then as a lifetime's hobby - something I could pick up and put down as my life permitted, but I didn't realise then how compelling it was going to be or how many new friends I would meet.
Since the births of my two children, and I have not been working full
time, I have used my family history research as a way of keeping my mind active and an
escape from baby-talk and nappies. Quite often I will go straight from putting them to bed
to the study, where I will check my messages - from genealogical mailing lists to hopeful
cousins!
I also actively support the Look-up Exchange as
co-ordinator of four county
pages and as a volunteer.

The following pages give brief details of the families I am researching. At the moment the
information given is basic - County, Place and time period - but I hope to expand the
entries as time allows. . I am still working on the best way to show the information, and
any suggestions are welcome!
It is arranged by pre-1974 English counties, and therefore some families may be found on more than one list as they moved from county to county. Where I am aware of a web page with further information on this particular family, or the surname in general, I have added a link to the entry.
In common with all genealogists, I am happy to hear from anyone who might have a connection with this family, or would like more information on a particular line.
