After graduation I and Harry Moore obtained jobs at Congoleum in Marcus Hook. It was a fantastic job starting out at $1.00 per hr. Were we happy. In 1949 Harry got married and I got drafted. I never seen Harry again. Because I couldn't see myself in the Army, I joined the Air Force which had just come into being. There was one interesting thing I found out when I joined. I had an opportunity to see my high school transcript. I was ranked 117th out of 118. I always wondered whom that last guy was? Was it Joe Doc? Then in 1950 somebody started a war and that kept me busy for awhile. I got married in 1955 and divorced in 1988. She got the gold mine and I got the shaft. A good catholic remains single? Have 5 children and 11 grandchildren. All, except one family, live in WA. I was discharged in OR and remained in that part of the country. Except for a few short years.
I came back to PA in 1956 and graduated from PMC in 1959.  I got out of Chester just in time, before it was destroyed. Worked for a period of time in Trenton, NJ and then moved back to the west coast. On the west coast I worked for the Navy at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center.
There I spent 26 years in submarines teaching submarine CO's undersea warfare. When the Russians surrendered there was no more need for the job, so I retired. Submarine CO's don't need to know to much anymore except how to stay alive. The Greenville is a good example. I met Fr O'Connor while he was in the Navy and we remained friends until he became a Cardinal. Through Fr O'Connor I met a Lutheran minister, Paul Running who was in the Navy with Fr O'Connor, and we remained friends until he died.
