On my mother's side, we have traced a line of descent from James II, King of Scots, who died in 1460. The de jure royal family of England, Scotland, and Ireland (commonly called the "Jacobite" line) is descended from Henrietta Anne Stewart, Duchess of Orleans, daughter of King Charles I. The de facto reigning family over England and Scotland, however, is descended from a usurping junior Protestant line that traces back to a sister of King Charles I. Following is a comparison of our descent from James II with the royal line that illicitly reigns over the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, showing that I am 16th cousins twice removed of the late Elizabeth of Greece (commonly known as Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of the German Saxe-Coburg-Gotha princely dynasty). The second chart shows a somewhat closer kinship to the late Elizabeth of Greece -- 15th cousins once removed -- through a common descent with her mother Elizabeth, the late de facto Queen Mother, from the Scottish family of Ruthven. The third and fourth charts show further kinships also through ancestors of the late de facto Queen Mother, one being 16th cousins three times removed, and the other being 17th cousins.
