What follows is the note by Tom E Stull that Kathy Gilbert refers to above, written in the late 50's in an old man's scraggly handwriting, preceded by my transcription of it. The town that looks like "Aly ona" seems to be Algona, Kossuth Co. Iowa, as suggested by Ruth Sprowls of
Madison, Ohio. Does any one know where the Brown Boys of Penn. book is, or who Mrs Lou Kennedy was? There are a couple of Kennedys in Algona in 1920. 1920 Algona also has this family: Thomas E. Stull, 34, father b. PA (author of the note below); with wife Hazel, 31; dau Elizabeth, 8; and son Thomas, 7. There is also in 1920 Algona a Lucinda Stull, 63, parents b. ?PA, who must be Tom E Stull's mother, right next to a Gertrude Brown, 19. Gertrude Brown and Elizabeth Stull both seem like pretty good candidates for being Mrs. Lou Kennedy. Now, there is an Elizabeth Kennedy in both the SSDI and the CA Death Index, b. 11/25/1912 in Iowa, d. 2/25/1990, but her info seems a bit inconsistent. Another possibility: there's a marriage record in the IGI for Louis Merle Kennedy in 1914, but it's a couple of counties over from Kossuth Co.
Susan Snawley or Smalley.
Susan Brown was born around Port -------- or Burnt Cabans in 1827 on April 15.
Her mothers maiden name was Troxler and her fathers was Richart Brown or Ricky as his friends called him-
On this family on her motherse side or his there was Indian blood whick grand mother at the time did not want to talk about. She was a fine old woman to all her grand children and was the favorite with them all
Grand-mother had two great uncles that were trappers & Indian fighters. There is a book out about the Brown Boys of Penn.
Her mother as a girl had to take refuge in Fort Littleton every time there was a Indian scare
Susan Brown had 3 brothers killed in the battle at Vicksburg
At least that where they were when last heard from.
Her great uncles were two Indians fig fronter--- men known as the Brown Boys of Penn.
Mrs Lou Kennedy of Aly ona had the book. I think it is still in Aly ona.

Subject: Joshua's brother Daniel of Huntingdon
Kathy,
I have been looking for material on Susan Brown (daughter of Richard Brown & granddaughter of
Joshua Brown). I saw your info on Joshua Browns youngest son George Washington Brown and
looked up material on him in Iowa. When looking through The History of Van Buren & Jefferson Cty IA,
I found GWs granddaughter Isabel (daughter of GWs son John L) married Asahel Brown. When
looking up Asahel Brown, I found that Asahel was the son of Daniel Brown and had been raised in
Huntingdon Cty PA . Asahel had married a woman named Isabelle Steele of Huntingdon. I, then, when
to the Trees on Ancestry and found this quote from Pat Thomas on Asahel:
My ancestor Asahel Brown was mayor of Fairfield for a while and he was also postmaster
for many years. He had a store that sold carriages, along with his son Daniel Brown.
Asahel's oldest son, Isaac (my ancestor) had a blacksmith shop there. Both Asahel and Isaac
Brown worked as teamsters when they first moved there.
He was the son of Daniel Brown born about 1755 in England and Temperence Harrington
born about 1766 in Wales.
He has a long sketch in the Portrait and Biographical Album of Jefferson county, Iowa,
published in 1890 by Chapman Brothers in Chicago. He had located in Jefferson county in
August of 1844. He was born in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania 21 April 1795 and was
the son of Daniel Brown. He was reared in Pennsylvania and married Miss Isabella Steele
there 11 February 1819. She was also born in Huntingdon county, 15 July 1797, the
daughter of Samuel Steele.
She wrote more in her tree and looks like she found the same info in Portrait and Biographical
Album of Jefferson County, Iowa, published in 1890 by Chapman Brothers in Chicago. (I can
send you the scans I have on both the Asahel & John L Brown page if you think it is worth
pursuing). The big thing is that she said Daniel was born in England. Consequently, Daniel would
not have ancestors in the US. Since you thought Joshua had a brother Daniel from their shared land
purchase in 1785, perhaps there are no US ancestors for these brothers. I dont know if these
would then be brothers to William S Brown on your website.
BTW, I did write you last week about Susan Brown and sent a bio that her grandson Tom Stull did in
the late fifties based on his talks with her and his trip to Huntingdon Cty PA... I just found another part
of your website that talks about another Brown thinking there was a connection to Native Americans. I
did talk to the descendants of Missouri Brown (another of Richards children) and they also said that
Richards wife Sarah Troxler was part Indian. They have had DNA (both partners of the couple in their
eighties are related to Missouri) testing done and they can not identify the exact Indian tribe however.

Note that the 1755 birth in England that Kathy Gilbert gives for Daniel Brown is, coincidentally enough, very close to the 1757 birth in England that Linda Sue Ellis Stalder's DAR record gives for William S. Brown.

Subject: Brown Immigration
Kathy,
Last night I searched for the immigration records of Pat Thomass Dan Brown (1755 England-1810
Henderson Huntingdon PA). Ancestry had a card with info on an arrival of Dan Brown in 1769 from
Peter Coldhams book Kings Passsage to MD & VA. When I searched for Browns in that card
source, I came up with James, William and Joseph Brown with adjacent page numbers. I was
disappointed that Ancestry did not have the book scanned. (I was hoping that Joseph would actually be
Joshua-although he would only be ~4 yrs old). When I went to Google I found out more about the book.
(See the interesting quote following the five cards in my attachment). The 5th card is from another
William Brown who came in 1769 but his name was noted in American Genealogical Society
Quarterly. It gave his age as 45 (1769-45=1724). A suitable age to be a father of these four Browns in
Coldhams Book. I decided I needed to see the books so I will go to a library about hour away on
Monday and look at the original book entry for all the Browns. The library shows the Coldham Book
and the Quarterly in their collection. BTW, I even found a Harrington that came over the year before
(1768) listed a few pages earlier than the Browns in the Coldhams Book. Pat Thomas is going to look
for more info over the weekend. Dans wife Temperance Harrington came from Wales. I dont know
whether England sent debtors from Wales to Maryland too. It would be nice to know if Dan married
Temperance Harrington in England & then came over to the US or whether he met her in MD or PA.
Since their son Asahel was born in 1795 in Huntingdon, I suspect that they married in the US.
Temperance was born in 1766 so it also leads me to believe she came to the US as a daughter and
not a wife.
I assume you have a high speed connection so I am going to send an attachment of the
