Will of James Coyle of Frederick County, VA 1769

In the name of God, Amen, the
twentieth day of August 1769, I James Coyle of Frederick County
in the colony of Virginia being sick and weak of body, but of a perfect sound
mind memory and understanding blessed be God for the same and calling to mind
the mortality of the body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die
do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form
following:
First I recommend my soul into my Saviours hands
for all is his, and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and
decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and as touching
such temporal estate it hath pleased the Almighty to bestow on me in this life
I devise and dispose therefore in form and manner following - first I will that
all my debts and funeral charges be paid and discharged.
Secondly I do give unto my sons William Coyle, James Coyle and Robert Coye(sic)
the land and plantation whereon I now live which land I will to be sold after
the decease of my wife and the money the price thereof between my above
named three sons -
Thirdly I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife
Ann Coyle the use and benefit of my land and plantation with all and
singular of my personal estate during her widowhood and provided she should
marry that then the above mentioned land shall be sold and all my personal
estate and my wife to have her third thereof and the other two thirds of the
land to be divided between my three sons only and the remainder of my
said estate to be equally divided between all my children except a bed for each
of my daughters.
I give to my daughter Catharine Midcalf one featherbed and likewise I
give to my daughter Frances Coyle one feather bed.
I likewise give to my youngest daughter Ann
Coyle one flock bed which beds are to be delivered to them at the decease
of their mother and not to be counted as a part of their legacy.
Lastly I do constitute and ordain my well beloved
wife my sole executrix of this my Last Will and Testament revoking and
declaring void all former wills and testaments by me made in witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

At a Court held for Frederick County August
1st(sic) 1769 this Last Will and Testament of James Coyle deceased was
proved by the oaths of Messer Beeson and Joseph(sic) Pugh witnesses
thereto and ordered to be recorded and upon the motion of Ann Coil(sic) the
executrix therein named who took the usual oaths certificate is granted her
for claiming a portion thereof in due form whereupon she together with Joseph
Wilkenson and Jesse Paugh (sic)her suritys enter into and
acknowledged a bond in the penalty of five hundred pounds conditioned for her
faithful administration of the said decedents estate.

19 Oct 1796 - James Kile in Frederick Co. got 3 Acres, 3 rods, 3 square poles
on some drains of Back Creek near a gap of the North Mountain adjoining the
said Kile's other land and Samuel Smith and Mathias Grove
10 Feb 1798 - James Kiles in Frederick Co. got 3 Acres, 24 square poles on the
west side of the Great Road leading from Gossett's Smith shop to Pugh Town,
adjoining Samuel Smith & CO.
