Notes for Richard FITCHETT
In the Revolutionary War, both James and his brother Richard were listed in Johnson’s Kings Royal Regiment of New York.27

Under the United Empire Loyalist claims Richard Fitchett gave affidavit he was late of Tryon County, New York Province and witnessed that William Shewman was possessed of a good house with 100 acres cleared. Richard had been a private in the Royal Highland Emigrants, 84th Regiment of Foot and contrary to supposition that this was strictly a Scots/Irish Battalion, a “French Company” was formed in 1779, consisting mostly of French Canadians from Quebec and New York Province. The index to Land Patents (MS1 reel 2) shows the many acres of property given to Richard Fitchett by Order in Council.
1. Lot 5, conc. 4, Fredericksburgh, circa 1800 100 acres
2. Lot 5, conc. 4, Camden East, July 9, 1817 100 acres
3. Lot BR, con. 10, Cartwright twp, July 12, 1808 100 acres
4. Lot 9, conc. 10, Cartwright twp, July 29, 1817 100 acres
5. conc. 4, Fredericksburgh, Dec 4, 1818 100 acres
He no doubt traded the land at Cartwright for we later found he claimed to be from Fredericksburgh and Richmond.25
