When about 5 years old, his parents, Rial and Mercy, moved to Alfred, NY. When a young man, he and his two older brothers, John Varnum and Franklin, settled in Wisconsin. Oscar and Elmira first settled near Edgerton, Wisc., where their 3 children were born. Later they moved to Minnesota, where he operated a drug store, and then moved to Grand Rapids, Nebraska, where he engaged in the livery business. After his wife’s death, he went to Los Angeles with his children. He died at the home of his son, Erford, in Los Angeles.

O. U. Wescott was named as Father-in-law to Charles Adelbert Canfield in his will and was granted $250.00 per month during his life, the same having been paid to 15 Feb 1915. O. U. Wescott requested that future payment of the annuity be relinquished.
