Son of John Battey who m-Sept 15, 1707, Margaret Carr, of the first Samson Battey of Jamestown, RI and one of the proprietors of East Greenwich, RI, 1677. John and Priscilla resided in Scituate, RI, where their children were born. John, in his will, mentions his wife Priscilla, grandson Caleb, sone of his eldest son John, deceased; children of Joshua, deceased, namely Owen and Benjamin A.; granddaughter Frances, wife of John Webb; daughter Frances, wife of Theophilus Blackmar; daughter Lydia, wife of Rhodes Fenner, deceased; children "of my daughter Mercy Clarke, deceased"; daughter Sarah, wife of Gideon Austin; daughter Anne, wife of Thomas Henry; son of William Battey, who was "Amasa Bettey whom I brought up." William Burton, J.P., was the third cousin of Priscilla; he also married Ethelanah, her sister; thus two sisters married two Battey brothers. (Stukely Westcott, Vol. 2, Pg. 227, 1939)
