Notes for Martin Turner (Spouse 1)
Southern Union Loyalist229

Harbison, Martin T., born 12 Oct 1838, at Davis Gap in Morgan County, Alabama; first entered the service as a private in 1862 in Jasper, Alabama in Rice's Company J of the 56th Alabama Regiment. Continued service until 1864 until sent home on detail; paroled at Decatur, Alabama. (Source: Cullman County, Alabama: 1907 Census of Confederate Soldiers. Some marriage notes from "Blount County Marriages 1820 - 1892" by Lottie Painter Hudson; other information from the 1860 Blount County Census; Cullman County Cemeteries, Volume I, II, and III; and the Alabama Death Certificate Index.)

Martin Turner H. and Simeon H. both served in the Confederate army. Both enlisted 13 SEP 1862 in Jasper, AL and were members of the Company B, 13th Battalion, Alabama Partisan Rangers. The 13th was later consolidate with the 15th battalion in 8 JUN 1863 to form the 56th Regiment, Alabama Partisan Rangers.230,231

Simeon Harbison and his brother Martin Turner H. were part of the 13th Alabama Partisan Rangers (Confederate cavalry). There are many H's, Cagles, and Nesmiths who fought for the CSA and several who fought for the union (1st AL Cavalry Volunteers). It seems the descendents of Charles Hill H. aligned with the CSA and those of Samuel Hill H. aligned with the union, so it really was a war that pitted brother against brother, or in this case cousin against cousin.230,231
