Notes for David FITCHETT
David Fitchett, son of James and Elizabeth, married Ellison Fairbairn from Scotland when Ellison was 19 years old. She died at the age of 42 leaving a 3 year old son, Wellington, in the care of her eldest daughter Emma. Emma was only 16 years old when she undertook the rearing of her siblings. Eight years later David married Lucy Ann Daly; but this marriage was a disaster from the beginning for we find David advertising “he would not be responsible for any debts incurred by his wife Lucy Ann Daly dated 1872”. Rumors were rife that she had run off with another man. David finally obtained a divorce but the pity and shame he had suffered took their toll and he died in 1879. He is buried in St. Paul’s Cemetery with Ellison.25

Ellison Fairbairn, born 1st Jan 1822, left Jedburgh, Scotland (near the border between Scotland and England), as a young lady. She married David Fitchett, shortly after her ninteenth birthday, on 14th February 1843. Ellison died 10 June 1864, aged 42, leaving a three year old son, Wellington, in the care of her eldest daughter, Emma. It was Emma, who at the tender age of sixteen, undertook the rearing of her siblings. Ellison is buried with David in St. Paul's Cemetery.25
