Mariposa Boy Fatally Injured In Accident On Tuesday Evening
Donald Dulcich Dies From Fractured Skull In Merced Hospital As Result Of Unavoidable Traffic Accident In Mariposa: Street. Driver Is Exonerated.
The entire community of Mariposa was shocked last Tuesday evening at the tragic death of little Donald Dulcich, three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Dulcich. Playing with Fourth of July "sparklets", with a group of children in front of Trabucco's store on Main street, the child dashed headlong into the side of an automobile drlven by Frank Davis of Merced, and was thrown violently to the pavement in the sight of scores of bystanders.
The accident, which occurred at 7:30 p.m. was declared unavoidable by Sheriff J. J. Castagnetto, who witnessed the unfortunate occurrence. Davis, who is a postal employee in Merced, was en route to Yosemite with his wife and child, and was proceeding at a moderate speed, according to witnesses, and did not see the boy until he ran into the right front fender of the car. Grief-stricken, Davis abandoned his projected vacation, and returned to Merced.
Dr. J. S. Webster was immediately summoned and after administering first aid, diagnosed the injuries. as a depressed basal skull facture and that the only possible chance of saving the child's life was to take him, to Merced where an operation could be performed if necessary.,
Capt. E. J. Jobnstone of the local state traffic force, was pressed into service as chauffeur and a record trip was made to the Mercy Hospital in Merced, Where despite the efforts of Drs. Webster, Lein, Fountain and Jackson, the, boy died at 11:20 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Dulcich and Mrs. E. J. Trabucco accompanied Dr. Webster and Captain Johnstone.
Donald was the only child, of Mr. and Mrs. Dulcich, and while only a baby, his cheerful personality and sunny disposition had endeared him to all who knew, him. The sympathy of everyone is extended to the bereaved family.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. D. A. Williams were held in the public cemetery today, with many friends of the family attending. And rnany a tear was shed when they laid the little boy to his last rest.
