Fitchett Gets Contract for New Hangar
Les Fitchett and Son, contractors, were awarded the contract for constructing a four-part hangar at Merced Municipal Airport by the City Council Monday night. Their bid was $10,498.76, lowest of three bids.
The city will provide half the funds and the federal government will provide the balance. The hangar will be used for rental purposes to individuals. Airport Manager Ed Nicols said it should produce $240 per months in revenue for the city.
Councilman Joe Merino sought to block the project by expressing the opinion the city could better use the funds for street work. When he failed to get support on this plan he joined the other councilmen in accepting the Fitchett bid.
