LUCY BROWN may have been born in the 1830s; she was reportedly a young woman when the Mariposa Battalion entered Yosemite Valley in 1851. We have never been able learn the names of her parents and, if she had a maiden name, we never learned it. I doubt that she did. She died in Yosemite Valley on October 21, 1924.

BILL BROWN may have been born at Red Cloud, not far from Coulterville to the Northwest of Yosemite. Often referred to as Captain Bill, he was a Miwok leader. He married Lucy, and they had at least two children, Johnny Brown and Nancy Maria Brown Wilson. He died in about 1899. He may have been a descendant of Chief Tenaya, although there is not any good information how his line of descendancy might be traced.
134Bill was aka Mono Tom Brown aka Capt Bill, a Miwok leader. He worked for a Greek that couldn't say Brandon so it became Brown
