Note #1. After his marriage to Margaret Van Deusen the family moved to Union Bridges New York which is situated on Cayuga Lake. Caleb along with his young daughter Mary died in a boating accident on April 14, 1820 Another daughter Sarah was saved by the boats owner an old friend of Caleb.

Note #2. After Caleb's death his two youngest children; Eliza and Caleb Augustus lived with their grandfather Jonathon Canfield for a number of years. Isaac Kirby, Jonathon's son-in-law had been sent to the site of the tragedy to bring the children home.
