His commission as ensign of the first company of militia of Cranston, signed by Gov. John Collins, Mar 12,1785, is now in the hall of the Historical Society of Newport. Jonathan was a soldier in the revolution, serving in Captain H. Pierce's comapny, Col. Cotton's regiment of Continental troops. (Stukely Westcott, Vol. 1, Pg. 230, 1932)
