Funeral services for Joseph B. Davis, who died in his home at Milton last Friday night following a brief illness of pneumonia, were held Monday. Following a short service at the house, Dr. Edwin Shaw officiated at the service at the Seventh Day Baptist church. The I.O.O.F. had charge of the service at the grave in Milton cemetery. The pallbearers were T. C. Blake, H. B. Crandall, Frank Hull, Loyal Hull, Robert Mathie and W. H. Waterman.
Mr. Davis was born in Sullivan, Ind., on April 16, 1854, and was married to Miss Ida Castle in February, 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Davis came here from Welton, Iowa, in 1914, and three years later he started the fuel business in which he engaged at the time of his death.
He was associated with the Seventh Day Baptist church, belonged to DuLac lodge I. O. O. F., and the Rock River encampment.
Besides his widow, Mr. Davis leaves one son, Dr. Ezra Davis, Colby, Kan.; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Allen, Preston, Ia; and Mrs. Henry Erbs, Milton; four brothers, Frank Davis, Delmar, Ia.; Marion Davis, Clinton, Ia.; and Lincoln and Sam Davis, Cedar Rapids, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Carpenter, Bettendorf, Ia., and Mrs. Jane Smith, Beresford, S. D.
There was a very large attendance at the funeral, those from away including Dr. Ezra M. Davis, Colby, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Allen and daughter, Preston, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis and son Harry, Mrs. Addie Shoaff and Mrs. George Wasoba, Delmar Junction, Iowa; Charles Hainstock, Welton, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Davis, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Castle, Mrs. George Smith, and Horace Frazier, Chetek; Mrs. Jerry Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Carrol, Reedsburg; Richard Hainstock, Lime Ridge; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wheeler, Baraboo; Mr. and Mrs. John Mally and Mrs. George Miller, Janesville.
