Ellen Groves was born January 15, 1860 to John Groves and Jane Holbert of Elzevir Township. She was the sixth child for this couple.
She married George Wilson Holmes on May 10, 1883 at Bridgewater, Ontario. George was born April 01, 1853 to Abraham Holmes and Ellen Watt of Madoc Township. To their union there was a family of seven children born. Catherine Jennet, Annie Jane, Percy Groves, Elsie Ellen (my grandmother), Clela Pearl, Edward and George Arthur.
George passed away June 15th, 1922 and Ellen passed away October 10th, 1948. They are buried in the Hazzards Cemetery at Hazzards Corners in Madoc Township. Their son Percy Groves was born 1888 and passed away in 1893. He is also buried in the Hazzards Cemetery.596
