George and Mary came west and homesteaded in Napinka, Man. on SW 25-4-25
They are both buried in Napinka cemetary. Mary died in Brandon Gen. Hosp.
In 1917, while operating the binder, run away horses caused George to loose his left hand. He always wore a hook after that but in any phote of him you will notice he keeps his hand in his pocket. After the injury it was said that Goerge experienced a lot of pain so the Doctor told him to dig up the hand, lay it on cotton balls, straightening out the fingers, and re-bury it. This accomplished, George no longer experience the PAIN!!
The Summer of 1938 George broke his leg while down at the river, then leter on that summer he drove through the garage. All these things lead him to be very tired and he developed sleeping sickness which he died from.
When he first came out west he worked around Mullet (west of Hartney, MB). He was 77 years old, born Hastings County, Ontario and he came west when he was 28 years old. He retired to Napinka, MB in 1926.
