Byron J. "Barney" Fitchette, 76, Co. Rt. 3, Clayton, died Sunday, Apr. 19, at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay.
Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton, on Tuesday, Apr. 21, from 4 - 8PM. The funeral service will be held on Wed., Apr. 22, at 11 AM at The River Community Church with Rev. Dr. D. James Lewis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, town of Cape Vincent.

Barney was born in Theresa on June 2, 1932, the son of James and Vera McDermott Fitchette. He attended local schools.
On Nov. 12, 1955 he married Jennie M. Johnston at the First Baptist Church, Clayton with Rev. Clayton R. Stoddard officiating.
He worked for the Village of Clayton for over 30 years. He was a former member of the Black River Valley Fiddlers, the 1000 Islands Bluegrass Assoc., and the Brownville Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Jennie, he is survived by his daughter, Sharon D. Fitchette, Plessis, his son and his wife, Walter Z,. and Kathy Fitchette, Clayton, his 4 grandchildren, Sarah and Lucas Blackford, LaFargeville, Summer Lennox, Denver, CO, and Cale and Kayla Fitchette, both of Clayton, his 2 great grandchildren, Vera and Quinton Blackford, both of LaFargeville, his brother, Mike Fitchette, LaFargeville, his 2 sisters, Dorothy Vaadi and Marion Vaadi, both of LaFargeville, 1 aunt, 1 uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His granddaughter, Amanda Fitchette, died Oct. 14, 2006, and he was also predeceased by his sister, Ethel Freeman.
