Notes for Genevieve Faith DAVES
Genevieve Faith Daves was born as Patricia May Mitchell. She was adopted by John Chesley Daves and his wife Emma Florence Daves of Winfield, Kansas a few months after her birth in 1924 to MARIE MITCHELL, daughter of LAURA MITCHELL at the Salvation Army Home in Wichita. Very early she revealed tremendous talent in the arts and was an accomplished violinist and pianist at a very young age. She won many state and national competitions, never losing a single one. Sadly, her adoptive father died when she was 16, and as an only child she remained in Kansas with her mother until the following year, when she went to Julliard. As an undergraduate she was the Concert Mistress of the Julliard Graduate School Orchestra. Over the years, she has given many violin and piano concerts and has become a composer as well. She composed the score of the musical "Eden on the River", an historical musical about the partnership between Aaron Burr and Harmon Blennerhassett, who funded Burr's expeditions to the West from his home on Blennerhassett Island, West Virginia.. The musical was favorably reviewed by the New York Times during the 1970s and is produced yearly in Parkersburg, WV. (The facts surrounding the story of "Eden on the River" are an integral part of American and Ohio/West Virginia history). She was a music professor for many years at Marietta College, and helped many a student to develop their musical talents.
