Obituary of Cincinnatus C. Daves: February 8, 1912 - Winfield Kansas Newspaper
THE ENDLESS SLEEP C.C. Daves, Comission Man, Died of Heart Disease
When C. C. Daves of Daves & Son, commission merchants, retired to rest Tuesday night it was, without knowing it, to sleep the eternal sleep. Some time in the night his life passed away, and it was not known till late Wednesday afternoon. Then, John Kowing, who worked for Mr. Daves, buying grain through the country, went to the house and found him. Kowing had talked with him over the phone about seven o'clock Tuesday night, concerning the business. Hearing nothing from him all day Wednesday, he went to the house 911 East Riverside, at seven o'clock in the evening, to see him. Coroner Marsh decided that the death was due to heart trouble and that no inquest would be necessary. Mr. Daves was alone in the house, his wife being away on a visit at Pamyra, Nebraska. He would have been sixty-four years old had he lived until Thursday. His native place was Illinois, where he lived to manhood, going to Nebraska about thirty years ago. Nine years ago he went to Guthrie, and came to Winfield a year ago. His son, John Daves, has been a resident in Winfield for eight or ten years. They have had a grain commission office together in the First National building for some time. Mr. Daves had four children living. These are John C. Daves, now living in Wichita, Mrs. C. Foster and Miss Eva Daves, in Bartlesville, and Miss Myrtle Daves and Miss Genevieve Daves, in Guthrie. Mr. and Mrs. John Daves came down from Wichita Wednesday night, and the daughters came from Guthrie Thursday morning. The funeral will be set as soon as Mrs. Daves arrives from Nebraska. It may be held here or at Guthrie.
