Notes for Christopher C. CRANDALL
Christopher C. Crandall was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1841 and came to Maroa vicinity with his parents in 1852. In 1861, with many other young men, he enlisted in the 41st. Illinois Volunteers in Co. A and went to the front. He was taken prisoner in 1863 but never interned in a prison, being moved from place to place with the enemy's camp and finally exchanged. He was mustered out at Springfield in August, 1864.

Affidavit signed by C.C. Crandall on behalf of William Daves for his civil war pension application.
Aubust 11, 1878 State of Illinois, Macon O., in the matter of Orig. Inv. Pension of William Daves, C. C. Crandall of Maroa, Macon Co Illinois: That he is thirty six years of age, resides as above. Stated and is a real estate agent by occupation. That he is well acquainted with the above named claimant Wm. Daves who was a pvt in Co. D. 116 Ill. Vols. and has been acquanted with him since the year 1857. That they were near neighbors living within 3 miles of each other, and that claimant was a farmer. That upon claimant's return from the army in July 1865 he was affected with chronic diarrhea resulting in general debility and weakness which has affected him to such extent as to cause him from that time to the present, in affiant's opinion, to lose fully three fourths of his time each year. That claimant was treated for said disability by Dr. O. Wetzel, now of Perryville, KS, and by Dr. A. F. Cann (??) of Argenty (or Newbury) ILL, the latter of whom told affiant that claimant was incurable. He further declares that he has no interest in said case, and is not concerneed in its prosecution.
