ERWIN Dr. Chesley P. Erwin, former Medical Examiner of Milwaukee County and Professor of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, died at the age of 80 on Dec. 15, 2000 in Wauwatosa, WI, as a result of complications from a stroke he suffered in April 1996. The former Medical Examiner served in that capacity from 1972 to 1986, and taught Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1956 until he retired in 1990. He was born in Wellston, OK on June 5, 1920. A Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Erwin earned his MD degree there in 1951. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. Dr. Erwin held many hospital and faculty appointments in Milwaukee, WI, and also had many national and international professional society member ships and offices. Writing and lecturing were also part of Dr. Erwin's successful and busy career. A prolific writer, he was published in many medical journals, magazines, and papers. He lectured extensively, particularly on forensic pathology. A published poet, he also enjoyed reading, gardening and listening to classical music. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; son, Chesley P. Erwin, Jr., Milwaukee; daughter, Susan D. Erwin, Woodland Hills, CA; daughter-in-law, Karen Erwin, Elm Grove; and two grandchildren, Christian and Katherine. Dr. Erwin's former wife, Dr. Constance Erwin, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Medical College of Wisconsin, the University of Oklahoma Medical School scholarship fund, or the St. Camillus Memorial Fund, Wauwatosa, WI. Erwin, Chesley Para, M.D. Publication Date: Dec. 17, 2000 Died Dec. 15, 2000, following a very long illness. Age 80.
The son of Eva Mae Daves and Fletcher Erwin of Wellston, OK. Dr. Erwin was a Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Oklahoma. During WWII, Dr. Erwin served as an Army Captain in the Pacific Theatre; seeing action at the Battle of Luzon . He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1951. In 1953, he and his first wife, Constance Raab came to Milwaukee to pursue their training-hers in radiology and his in pathology. They had 2 children: Chesley P. Erwin Jr. and Susan Dawn, and 2 grandchildren Christian Philip and Katherine Ann. Dr. Erwin's entire career was at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He retired in 1990. He also served as Medical Examiner for Milwaukee County for 14 years. He retired from that position in 1986. Dr. Erwin was active in medical politics. He served as President for the Milwaukee County Medical Society and President of the State Medical Society of Wisconsin. He has lived in Wauwatosa with his second wife Deborah Bain and their very spoiled cat Quincy since 1974. He will be missed by family, friends and his pet. Private Burial next to his parents in Wellston, OK.
