Notes for Frethias (Spouse 1)
BIO:
Per conversation with Anglee SMITH, who has done extensive
research on the PARMAN family, Frethias PARMAN is reported to have helped to establish both the Rough Creek and the Providence Baptist Churches which are presently located just off Highway #80-E east of London, KY. Ms. SMITH reports that Frethias is "supposed to be buried at Rough Creek." (Compiler did not locate grave, but it could have been missed.)
"Elder Frethias PARMAN" was quite active in the Laurel River Assoc. of United Baptists 1835-1840. At one of the meetings at Lynn Camp in 1835, he delivered the sermon. He was "messenger" for the Lynn Camp Meeting, Oct. 1840.
Florence Parman reports that "Frethias (pronounced as in Elias) was a Baptist minister. He established a church at Rough Creek, KY called Providence about 1840. It is said he was buried at Rough Creek, but no marker was ever put there. He brought part of his family to Ray County, MO, from Laurel County, KY in 1850. There is an Elizabeth Parman, age 48, listed as head of a household in the 1850 Laurel Co., KY census with children, Ann 18, Joseph 15, Mary 11, Jesse 8, Jarvis 6 , all born in KY. We speculate that Frethias came to MO to find a place to live leaving Elizabeth and the children to come later.
Mrs. Parman further comments, "There is no definite evidence that John and Giles are actually children of Frethias."
