Deceased Name: Athene E.H. Donald -- Seattle
A former resident of Woodland and Salmon Creek, Athene Eugenie Haigh Donald, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her daughter's home in Seattle. She was 79.
Mrs. Donald was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Delano, Calif. She attended St. John's Academy in Fresno as a boarding student and graduated from St. John's High School. After high school, she graduated from Central California Commercial College in Fresno and entered the insurance business. A dedicated athlete in her younger years, she excelled in tennis, basketball and skeet shooting, and enjoyed spending weekends at her father's race track, where she broke and rode his thoroughbreds.
She raised her children in Woodland and was a founding member of St. Joseph's Auxiliary. After her retirement she moved to Salmon Creek, where she tended her flower garden, continued to share her culinary creations and displayed a fondness for politics, all with equal enthusiasm.
