Notes for Rev. Joseph CLARKE
"The "Clarke" Families of Rhode Island"; by George Austin Morrison, Jr.; The Evening Post Job Printing House, New York; 1902, p 24, 27.
He must have removed from Newport to Westerly early in life, for in 1669 he became Town Clerk of Westerly, retaining the position until 1700. In July, 1675, he and his family went to Newport for fear of the Indian War then raging, and remained in the home of Rev. Samuel Hubbard until the war closed.

He was Deputy to the General Assembly in years 1698, 1700-2-4-6-8.

Will dated 5 Oct 1725 and proved 27 Feb 1727 at Westerly.
