Subject: JOHN D. NIX

Hello; I have not been in contact for some time and I wanted to give you something to consider. This is the way that I entered the information that you sent me regarding the family Silas Herman BYNUM and Verna Nannette NIX. I think that I transcribed it correctly, but I will check it again before I send it to you. But let me bring you up to date. I purchased some census index CD's from Ancestry.com and the name I selected to try out was Silas Herman Bynum. I found him in 1920 listed as Silas B. with wife,Verna NIX , three children, Alma, Cora May, and Grady, and with his mother Sarah. That all matched and I was proud of myself, but as I started to close the screen I noticed that she, Verna NIX, listed her Father as being born in Mississippi. Now I am 95% positive that the John NIX of Fanny Inman fame was born in Alabama not Mississippi. But wait I do have a John Nix, Actually John D. NIX, that was born in Mississippi about the same time. He is the son of Mary Ann NIX and John D. NIX, yes his Father was named John D. also. Mary Ann was the only daughter of Jennings Nix, the trunk of the tree that I am attempting to build. She married the elder John D. in South Carolina and moved to Mississippi with his family before Jennings and the rest of the family moved to Blount County, Alabama, but that is another story. I know that after the senior John D. died (between 1880 and 1890) in Mississippi, the Mother, Mary Ann and two of her unmarried daughters came to Altoona to visit the second wife of her Father, Jennings, and her half brothers. It was an extended stay, they appear on the 1900 and 1910 census for Altoona. I do not have proof that he came with them, but it is possible. He would have been somewhere between late teen' s and early to mid 20's at the time. Now the question, can I exchange John Nix and Fanny Inman for John D. Nix of Mississippi and wife Unknown?

One bit of additional information, there is a John D. Nix buried in the Altoona/ Walnut Grove Cemetery. I do not know if his wife is buried with him. I have not visited the grave. I do not know where Fanny Inman is buried.

This is the way it looks with John Nix and Fanny Inman as Parents: But that John Nix was not born in Mississippi.
