"Sabbath Recorder", Oct. 13, 1864.
In Independence, N, Y., Sept. 19th, 1864, Jane, wife of D. M. Clarke, in the 38th year of her age. Sister Clarke had been afflicted for two years with a cancer. No pains or money were spared in employing the best medical aid. She spent nearly one year at Auburn for medical treatment, but all to no avail. She endured her sufferings with great fortitude and cheerfulness. Hope of recovery supported her within a few months of her death; when that died out, a hope full of joy and immortality sustained her until the last. No murmur or complaint fell from her lips; a holy quietness gathered around her; and all who ministered to her, felt the divine influence. She passed away without a struggle. Her husband has lost a noble wife, her children a kind mother, and the community one of its brightest lights. None knew her but to love her. J.K.
