Notes for Daniel BABCOCK
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 25, No 42, p 166, Oct. 14, 1869.
Eld. Daniel Babcock, who finished his work on earth in October last, at Milton, Wis., was a native of Westerly, R. I., and one of the descendants of an Elder Babcock who for many years was an efficient minister of the gospel in that country.
Having grown up to manhood, and the spirit of emigration prevailing among the young in the vicinity where he resided, he left the Unadilla country, where he had married, and with others removed to what was then known as the Canisteo country, now Alfred, N. Y. He took up his abode in a log house, and engaged in clearing his land of the heavy timber, and providing scantily for the wants of his young and growing family.
Meetings were established there by the few settlers, and he soon became an active and efficient worker in the cause of God. In a few years a church was organized, and our brother was called to fill the office of deacon, and authorized to administer the ordinance of baptism, and to preach the gospel among his people.
In a few years, the increase of the church demanded additional laborers, and he and Richard Hull were called to ordination. A council, consisting of W. B. Maxson, E. S. Bailey, and John Green, met, and by them they were ordained to the work of the ministry in 1823, or near that time.
He was an active business man. He labored hard when at home, and often traveled night and day over the hills, in the storm and sunshine, exposing himself to untold hardships, to visit the sick and the dying, bury the dead, and preach the gospel to the destitute. He was a faithful sower, and he scattered the seed broadcast, and the laborers on that field now have entered into his labors, and are gathering the ripening sheaves, and ere long they will rejoice together.
About 1840, he with his family emigrated to Wisconsin, then new and undeveloped, and again began in a new country. Through his industry and prudence, he had been successful in accumulating some property, that placed him not only above want, but in circumstances to aid his children and others, and likewise the cause that he loved.
After his settlement in Wisconsin, he preached only occasionally, as duty seemed to demand, having no particular charge. He was an old man, full of years, when he was gathered to his people, in October, 1868.

Census: 1850 Johnstown, Rock Co., Wisconsin

Note: When a boy he removed with his parents to Brookfield, N. Y., where later he was baptized and united with the S. D. B. Curch of that town. Soon after his marriage he settled in Batavia, N.Y. In 1815 he removed to Alfred, N. Y. In 1816 he was ordained a Deacon of the S. D. B. Church, a year later licensed to preach, and Sept. 16, 1824, was ordained a S. D. B. minister. He preached in Alfred and surrounding towns far and near. About 1840 he removed to Milton, Wis., where he spent the remainder of his life, having no pastoral charge after 1838.

Admitted 31 Mar 1815 - Alfred, New York.
Ordained 1824.

There is a 40 acre "D. C. Babcock Estate" farm on the NE corner of sec 33 in Milton Township in 1928.
Notes for Lois (Spouse 1)
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 3, No 14, p 55, Sep. 24, 1846.
In Johnstown, Rock Co., W. T., on the morning of the 25 ult, of cholera morbus, Lois, wife of Elder Daniel Babcock, in the 58th year of her age.
Sister Babcock embraced religion in early life, became a member of the 1st Seventh-day Baptist Church in Brookfield, N. Y., removed her standing to the 1st Alfred church at its organization; thence to the Milton church, whence she departed to join the church triumphant whose names are written in heaven.
During the space of nearly thirty-eight years, in which she followed her Saviour in her pilgrimage, it is believed that she lived above reproach, and well adorned her profession, giving evidence of steadfastness in the faith, high and holy aims, and an unshaken confidence in the promises of her Saviour. Well did she exemplify the exhortation of the apostle, to "use hospitality." as everyone who sat by her board or her fireside can fully testify. For benevolence, sterling integrity of character, affability, and indeed all of the social graces, she had few if any superiors. She was a faithful and affectionate wife, a kind and good mother, a loving sister, a steadfast friend, and a living Christian.
She bore her last sickness, which was very severe, with entire patience and resignation, and when death struck the fatal blow, she resigned up her soul without a struggle or a groan, with the fullest assurance of a glorious immortality, and left her family and friends bathed in tears. S. C.
Notes for Deborah (Spouse 2)
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 48, No 6, p 89, Feb. 11, 1892.
Mrs. Deborah Babcock, of Milton, Wisconsin, (familiarly called Aunt Debby) widow of Elder Daniel Babcock, deceased, departed this life Jan. 27, 1892, aged 84 years, 5 months and 21 days. She was born in Exeter, R. I., daughter of Jesse and Susanna Tefft, and was one of a family of eight children, four brothers and four sisters, all of whom died before her. When a young woman her family moved to Almond, N. Y. Soon afterward she was baptized by Elder Daniel Babcock and joined the Alfred Church. She was married May 13, 1847, and with her husband, Elder Babcock, moved to Wisconsin and became a member of the Milton Church of which she was a member at the time of her decease.
At the time of her marriage to Elder Babcock the latter had seven children, all grown, who became greatly attached to their step-mother and the grand children grew up to love her as much as if she were their own grandmother. And well they might for Sister Babcock was a most affectionate and loveable woman. she was well adapted to be the wife of a minister - being of a most cheerful disposition, self-forgetful, always thinking of the comfort and happiness of others and knowing how to make the home the pleasantest place on earth.
She outlived all her husband's children and came down to a good old age, ripe for heaven. Until within two weeks of her death she occupied the house in which her husband died over 23 years ago. That she might be the better cared for, she was recently carried to her granddaughter's, Mrs. Albert Maxson, M. D., at Milton Junction, where she died of pleurisy, the recipient of all the attention that affection and medical skill could bestow. She was highly esteemed and greatly beloved by all.
The funeral exercises were held on the 29th ult., at the Seventh-day Baptist church at Milton Junction, conducted by her pastor, and her remains were interred by the side of those of her husband in the cemetery at the Junction. Her memory will be precious in the recollection of many friends and her few surviving relatives, E. M. Dunn
