Ensign Elias Burdick of Westerly and Hopkinton, R. I., prob. son of Thomas (Samuel, Robert) and Dorothy (Maxson)Burdick of Westerly now Hopkinton). R. I., b. 173..; d. Rockville, R. I., 1780; m. (1) Westerly, Jan. 17, 1754, Hannah Cottrell, b. North Kingston, R. I., May 4, 1735; d. 17....; m.(2) Hopkinton, Apr. 23, 1764, by Justice Job Burdick, to Elizabeth Cottrell, b. Apr. 16, 1733; d. Mar. 15, 1822. Both wives were the daughters of John and Elizabeth (Gardiner)Cottrell. She m. (2) ..... Stillman.

Elias Burdick was admitted a Freeman of Hopkinton the first Wednesday in May, 1760. In April, 1761, he was appointed ensign in Col. John Whiting's Reg. of 666 men raised in R. I. for the Provincial Army that under Gen. Moncton co-operating with Earl Rodney and Admiral Pocock's English Military and Naval campaign against the Spanish in the West Indies. The capture of Havana, Aug. 13,1762, was the most brilliant achievement of the expedition.

At Hopkinton there are records of a deed dated Mar. 9, 1779, from Elias and Elizabeth Burdick conveying property to Henry Joslin; an appraisal of personal property o?? Elias Burdick dated June 7, 1780; and a deed from Elizabeth Burdick, widow of Elias, conveying a dower right to Henry Joslin, dated Feb. 25,1782. He died of smallpox and is buried on the back part of his farm near Rockville, R. I., in the Larkin Cemetery on what is known (1932) as the Joshua Pendleton farm.

The Census of R. I. in 1774 states he had 9 in his family; 2 males over 16, 5 under 16, 1 female over 16, 1 under.
