Roger M. Burdick, 84, of 710 Campus St., died Thursday, April 25, 1991 at Rock Haven in Janesville.
He was born in Milton on Dec. 9, 1906, the son of Dr. J. H. and Clara (Stillman) Burdick. He married Sylvia Kutzke on Aug. 1, 1931; she died Sept. 29, 1966. On Feb. 16, 1968, he married Margaret Lowther Smitley. He graduated from Milton College in 1929 where he was active in sports, earning letters in football, basketball and tennis. Mr. Burdick was also in the Milton College Glee Club. He received the Milton College Athletic Award in 1966 and was inducted into the Milton College Hall of Fame in 1985. Mr. Burdick continued to be a sports enthusiast all of his life and was an avid tennis player for 64 years. He was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Milton Historical Society and Kiwanis Club. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Milton Choral Union. Mr. Burdick worked for the Milton Electric Company which was founded by his father. He was a meter reader at the age of 13 and then worked for more than 40 years in the engineering department.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Dr. Malcolm (Kathie) Burdick of Cedar Hill, Texas; one daughter, Emelyn Kalinowski of San Ramon, Calif; three step-daughters, Carolyn (Charlie) Brown of Milton, Mary Ellen (Richard) Steinke of Janesville, and Ginny (Tom) Otto of Stevens Point; 13 grandchildren; and one brother, Clifford of Tucson, Ariz.
Funeral services were Monday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Albrecht Funeral Home of Milton handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Roger Burdick, 60, of Milton, died Thursday, Sept. 29, in Edgerton Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating with burial in the Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Babcock of Milton gave the song service accompanied by Betty Daland as organist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Ochs, William Burdick, Herbert Crouch, Leland Skaggs, Charles Williams and Ivan FitzRandolph.
The former Sylvia Kutzke was born in Brooklyn Sept. 3, 1906, the daughter of Fred and Emma Wilck Kutzke. A 1927 graduate of Whitewater Normal she taught school in the Milton area before her marriage to Roger Burdick on Aug. 1, 1931.
She was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are her husband; a son, Malcolm, a student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; a daughter, Mrs. John Kalinowski of Denver, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Pernot, her twin, of Brooklyn, and Mrs. Marion West of Oregon.
Preceding her in death were her parents.

MILTON- Margaret A. Lowther Smitley Burdick, age 88, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at Cedar Crest in Janesville. Margaret was born on April 28, 1915 in Milton to S. Norton and Lola Grace (Rood) Lowther. She graduated from Milton High School and Salem College. Margaret was a teacher before marrying her first husband, Chester J. Smitley, in 1942. He passed away in 1948. She worked for Milton College and then the Milton School System for many years. In 1968 she married Roger M. Burdick; he passed away in 1991. Margaret belonged to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Milton Historical Society. Margaret is survived by her 3 daughters: Carolyn (Charlie) Brown of Milton, Mary Ellen (Richard) Steinke of Brodhead and Ginny (Tom) Otto of Stevens Point; stepchildren, Lynn Kalinowski of Lincoln, CA and Malcolm (Kathy) Burdick of Cedar Hill, TX; grandchildren: Mark (Jenny Stewart) Brown of Janesville, Jennifer (Scott) McMahon of Gillett, WI, Heather Brown of Madison, Christopher (Anya) Otto of Janesville, Heidi (Sam) Simkowski of Stevens Point, TJ Otto of Milton, Cindy (Kevin) DeWitt of Bothell, WA, Wendy Otto of Renton, WA, John Kalinowski of Fortuna, CA, Karolyn Kalinowski of Walnut Creek, CA, Alex Irwin, Caroline Burdick and Jarus Burdick, all of Cedar Hill, TX; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Virginia Clocker of St. Paul, MN; her brother-in-law, Robert Durkee of Ontario, CA; 2 nieces; and several sisters and brothers-in-law from her marriage to Chester. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson; and her sister, Elizabeth Durkee. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, with visitation from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home of Milton assisted the family.
