RIPON, WI/MILTON - Kenneth A. Babcock, age 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Parkview Care Center in Ripon, WI. He was born on July 7, 1911, in Milton, WI, son of Louis Arlington Babcock and Lettie (Landphere) Babcock. He married Flora E. Smith, his wife of 65 years, on Aug. 14, 1935, in Verona, NY; she died on June 13, 2000. He graduated from Milton College in 1933, then he enrolled at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio for graduate studies. Kenneth taught vocal music at Milton High School and grades K-8 at Milton Grade School from 1935 until 1947. In 1947 he became the Milton College choir manager for the college choir, securing concerts for the 50-voice choir. He also became executive secretary of the Milton College Alumni Assoc. In 1951 Kenneth took the position of corporate fund raising for the college. He was the soloist for the First Church of Christ Scientist in Janesville, WI, from 1939-1970. He sang for many wedding and memorial services in the Milton area. He was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church. In 1970 the Babcocks moved to Ripon, WI, where he became the director of Corporate Support Programs for Ripon College until his retirement in 1976. They returned to their home in Milton in 1976 until 1998, when they moved to the Ripon, Berlin area. He resided at the Parkview Care Center from 1998 to 2003. He was preceded in death by his brother, Laurance Babcock; his sister, Margaret Blackbrown Wickham; and a nephew, Donald Babcock. He is survived by 3 daughters: Jeanette (Richard) Freigang of Hemlock, MI, Virginia (Roger) Field of Berlin, WI, and Sue (William) Foster of Saginaw, MI; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer Grota, Sarah Brey, Laura Chier, Alan, Steve and Peter Freigang, Angela and Jeff Foster; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the Seventh Day Baptist Church, with Pastor George Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church or the Milton College Main Hall Preservation Society.

She was living in Berlin, WI at the time of her death, but had moved from Milton a couple of years earlier to be near Ken and their daughter Ginnie.

Flora Elizabeth Babcock, 91, died June 13, 2000, at Berlin Memorial Hospital, Berlin.
She was born March 16, 1909, in Rome, N. Y., the daughter of Thomas Smith and Carrie Palmiter. She graduated from the Verona, N. Y. high school and Milton College. She married Kenneth Babcock on Aug. 14, 1935, in Verona, N. Y. She spent her married years in Milton and the past two years in Berlin. She was a member of the Milton Seventh-Day Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Sojourner Truth Group, Milton Historical Society, Milton College Alumni Assn., Milton Woman's Club and the Ripon Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three daughters: A. Jeanette (Richard) Freigang of Saginaw, Mich., Virginia (Roger) Field of Berlin and Sue (William) Foster of Saginaw, Mich.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Marquardt of Huntington, N.Y. and Anna Davis of Columbia, S. C.; a brother, G. Allison Smith of Verona, N. Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18, 2000, at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery. Pastor George Calhoun officiated. Albrecht Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church.
