Robert L. Courtney, 34, a clerk at Janesville post office for eight years, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday in his home, 2125 Luther Road, after six months' illness.
He was a member of American Federation of Postal Clerks, served on the board of Postal Credit Union and was a civil service examiner.
Born in Fulton Township July 30, 1924, he was the son of Alfred and Clara Fulton Courtney. He was graduated from Milton Union High School in 1941 and attended Wisconsin State College, Whitewater, until enlisting in the Marine Corps. He served with First Marine Division in the South Pacific three years during World War II. He was a member of Cargill Methodist Church.
Mr. Courtney and Phyllis Hilts were married Feb. 19, 1949.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Robert John; a daughter, Patricia Jane; father; two brothers, Edward of Mountain View, Calif., and George of Milton Junction; three sisters, Mrs. Della Arnold, Kewaunee, Mrs. Chrystal Horkey, Hanover, and Mrs. Mary Davidson, Milton Junction.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Overton Funeral Home, the Rev. William A. Riggs, Cargill Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9.
