CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. James P. Smith (Colantonio) passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born May 9, 1945, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late George Colantonio Sr. and the late Hazel (Maxon) Cinney. A lifelong area resident, Jim spent many years working with the Guilderland School District. He loved working with his hands, taking care of animals, fishing, taking walks and cooking. Survivors include his devoted wife, Edith Mary Smith of Clifton Park; his daughters, Lee (James) Van Apeldorn of Colonie, Elizabeth (Brian) Burke of Oxbow, N.Y. and Louise (William) King of West Sand Lake; his sons, James (Lisa) Colantonio of Lansingburg, N.Y. and Jason Colantonio of Troy; step-daughters, Shari (William) Edwards of Voorheesville and Laura Helfer of Voorheesville; stepson James (Debbie) Helfer of Selkirk; sisters, Louise (Luciano) Tropeano of Mt. Laurel, N.J., Irene (Keith) Jones of Melrose, N.Y.; brother, Robert (Cindy) Colantonio of Petersburg, N.Y. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, George Colantonio Jr. and Ronald Colantonio. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their professional care of Jim. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow the service in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
