JANESVILLE - George W. Gilman, age 80, of 1523 N. Lexington, died Wed., Oct. 8, 1997, at home. He was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Attleboro, MA, the son of George W. and Helen S. (Wordell) Gilman. He attended schools in Janesville and graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1936. He and Beverly J. Rice were married Sept. 5, 1942 and celebrated many wonderful years together. George, his father, and his brother Russell originated Gilman Engineering and Manufacturing Co. in later years. George was owner and president of Janesville Tool and Manufacturing, Inc. He and Beverly retired in 1979, after selling the company. He was a member of First Congregational Church, and a member of Janesville Elks Lodge #254.
His survivors are his wife, Beverly of Janesville; a daughter, Janet L. (Richard) Mau of Youngstown, OH; a son, Roger A. Gilman of Kissimmee, FL; 2 granddaughters, Kaari L. (Richard) Wentz and Krista A. (John) Smith; a great-grandson, Tristan Wordell Smith, all of Youngstown, OH; a sister, Ruth Gilman of Lake Wales, FL; a brother, John W. Gilman of Lakeland, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Russell.
Services will be held Fri., Oct. 10, 1997, at 11:00 a.m., at First Congregational Church, with Rev. Gary Stillwell officiating. Entombment will be at Milton Lawns Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc., 2100 E. Milwaukee, and to the Janesville Noon Lions Club, of which he was a member since 1953. Schneider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JANESVILLE - Beverly Rice Gilman, age 78, passed away Thursday night, Dec. 16, 1999, at her home. Beverly was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Janesville, the daughter of Ivan and Lois (Crandall) Rice. Her marriage to George W. Gilman took place Sept. 5, 1942, in Milton, WI. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Janesville, and the Janesville Woman's Club. Her husband passed away Oct. 8., 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet (Richard) Mau of Youngstown, OH; a son, Roger (Sarah) Gilman of Kissimmee, FL; a brother, Ivan (Joyce) Rice of Milton; 2 granddaughters, Kaari (Richard) Wentz and their son Ivan Nicholas Wentz, and Krista (John) Smith and their children, Tristan Wordell Smith and Megan Grace Smith, all of Youngstown, OH; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.
It was her wish to be cremated. Her ashes will rest in the Milton Lawns Memorial Mausoleum. Services will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ at 1:00 p.m. Tues., Dec. 21, 1999, with Rev. Gary Stillwell officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will meet relatives and friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials in Beverly's name may be made to Hospice Care Inc. or First Congregational United Church of Christ of Janesville. Henke-Carson-Holzhuter Funeral Home id assisting the family.
