GALESBURG, IL/MILTON— Virginia N. Burdick, 86, of 285 N. Chambers St., Galesburg, IL, died Monday, June 21, 2004, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born on June 10, 1918, in Parkersburg, WV, daughter of Opha K. and Gertrude Bush Norman. She graduated from Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg, WV, and after attending one year at Salem College, Salem, WV, transferred to Capital University in Columbus, OH, and graduated with a bachelor's degree from that institution. On June 29, 1943, in Milton, WI, she married Dr. H. Laurence Burdick, who preceded her in death on May 24, 1998. Virginia was a state and regional officer for the General Federation of Women's Clubs for many years in Wisconsin and cherished her memories of that time.
For most of her life she was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and was very active in the life of that church, holding several positions through the years, including church president, clerk, and for many years publicity chairman for the church's annual turkey supper. She had served in many capacities on the school board in Milton, including treasurer. While she lived most of her life in Milton, in recent years her own and her husband's failing health had caused her to live with her children. After the death of her husband she joined the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Genesee in Little Genesee, NY, and was a member there at the time of her death. She had lived in Galesburg since 2001.
She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Norman R. (Faith) Burdick of Galesburg, IL, and Rev. Kenneth B. (Ruth) Burdick of Auburn, WA; a daughter, Linda J. (Rev. Gordon) Lawton of Milton; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her sister.
